Astrocartography Explained: Read Your Planetary Lines Before You Move

A practical guide to rising, setting, MC and IC planetary lines, birth-time accuracy and relocation decisions.

The map is not a moving recommendation

Imagine comparing Chicago, Seattle and Lisbon with your birth chart in hand. Astrocartography draws a geographic portrait of where planets were rising, setting or crossing the meridian at the moment you were born. The locations come from celestial geometry. The claim that a line changes your experience of a city belongs to astrology, not established science.

Read the angle before the planet

An Ascendant line marks a planet rising on the eastern horizon; astrologers associate it with how you show up. Descendant lines suggest encounters and collaboration. Midheaven lines are read through career and public life, while IC lines point toward home and belonging. A Jupiter-MC line and a Jupiter-IC line tell different symbolic stories, even though the planet is the same.

What Venus and Saturn can—and cannot—tell you

Venus is commonly interpreted through connection and pleasure; Saturn through commitment and structure. The Sun often represents visibility, the Moon familiarity, Mars drive and Jupiter expansion. These associations are prompts for reflection. They cannot tell you whether a city will offer affordable housing, a supportive community or a good job market.

Why your birth certificate matters

A small uncertainty in birth time can move angular lines enough to change which city looks closest. Confirm the local time, historical time zone and birthplace before comparing maps. If the time is unknown, resist precise distance claims. A compelling map with imprecise input is still imprecise.

Use the chart as one layer of research

Pick two realistic destinations. Compare their lines and write down what each place offers in work, relationships, climate, language and cost. If the symbolism helps clarify priorities, it has served a purpose. Never treat a planetary line as a substitute for visas, healthcare or financial planning.

FAQ

Can astrocartography guarantee a good move?

No. It has no demonstrated ability to predict relocation outcomes.

Do I need an exact birth time?
