BaZi means “eight characters”: four pairs of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches describe your birth. These reference points work together. A single animal or element cannot explain an entire chart.
The eight BaZi characters form four pairs: a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch for the year, month, day, and hour. Months follow solar boundaries rather than the first day of a calendar month. Accurate birth date, time, and location therefore matter when establishing the chart.
The Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar is the reference point for analysis. A Wood Day Master is not a fixed personality label: birth season, roots in the branches, and surrounding elements change its context. That configuration needs to be considered before drawing a symbolic interpretation.
Each of the ten Heavenly Stems combines an element with a Yin or Yang polarity. This distinction describes different expressions of the same element. It does not divide people into good and bad categories, and it is separate from the calculation sex used to determine traditional cycle direction.
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water describe interacting phases. The generating and controlling cycles provide a language for support, transformation, and regulation. Element counts offer a starting point, but birth season and the location of each element still matter when considering the whole chart.
The twelve zodiac animals correspond to the twelve Earthly Branches. Your Year animal represents only one pillar: month, day, and hour bring additional branches. Relationships between branches are considered in context, alongside the Hidden Stems they contain.
The Ten Gods describe symbolic relationships between a stem and the Day Master, based on element and polarity. They represent roles such as resources, expression, or responsibility. Hidden Stems add less visible influences; no single role can summarize a person’s life.
Da Yun organizes traditional analysis into major periods. Their direction and starting age depend on calculation conventions and birth details. A period is considered alongside the natal chart; it does not replace the chart or guarantee that a particular event will happen.
A chart can offer a symbolic framework for reflecting on relationship habits, approaches to work, and the use of resources. These applications connect several layers of the chart. They do not establish certain compatibility, predict a guaranteed career outcome, or promise financial gains.
